Chelsea announce signing of Cesc Fabregas, #WengerOut trends on Twitter
Chelsea have announced the signing of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, leaving Arsenal fans livid with the deal.
Rumours surfaced over a possible move a couple of weeks ago, with the Spaniard said to be surplus to requirements at Camp Nou, but many expected Barcelona to wait until they wrapped up the signing of Croatian Ivan Rakitic before allowing Fabregas to leave.
However the Blues today announced the arrival of the former Arsenal man, 10 days after the departure of club legend Frank Lampard, for a fee thought to be around £27m.
The 27-year-old has been handed the number four shirt at Stamford Bridge, signing on a five-year deal.
And Gunners are not happy with the deal, especially as it appears boss Arsene Wenger turned down the opportunity to bring him back to the Emirates.
Firstly I would like to thank everyone at FC Barcelona where I enjoyed three wonderful years. It was my childhood club and I will always be proud and honoured that I had a chance to play for such a great team, Fabregas told the Chelsea website.
I do feel that I have unfinished business in the Premier League and now is the right time to return.
I considered all the other offers very carefully and I firmly believe that Chelsea is the best choice. They match my footballing ambitions with their hunger and desire to win trophies. They have an amazing squad of players and an incredible manager. I am fully committed to this team and I cant wait to start playing.
