ROBERTO MANCINI admits his Manchester City side need tons of work to start firing on all cylinders again.
Despite netting 11 goals in four games, the City boss complained his side are not scoring enough.
And he rapped the defence who have failed to keep a clean sheet this season.
The champions finally saw off QPR 3-1 yet Mancini, in his 100th league game in charge of City, said: We played well in the first half but have one problem at the moment when we have a chance to score, we dont score.
We had this problem in our first game.
We had a problem against Liverpool. It is a problem and when you have a chance to score, you should score. In the second half we didnt play well but, in the end, its important we got three points.
Despite seven points from the first three games and another piece of silverware with the Community Shield, there was a warning to the players from their Italian boss after the match.
Mancini added: I said its important we cant concede a goal every game and this is one of our problems, and when we get a chance, we should score.
Mancinis assistant David Platt admits City have failed to fire as they did at the start of last seasons title-winning campaign.
Platt said: I do not think we are playing as well as we did at the start of last season when we were blowing teams away and keeping clean sheets.
There is an expectancy from ourselves and our supporters and we are not quite up to the levels we were last season.
But we sit there with seven points out of nine knowing we can improve. We have to be more consistent as a team.
Last season at the start we would have closed a game out early on. That can give you confidence and deflate the opposition.
City took the lead yesterday through Yaya Toure in the 16th minute and were dominant.
But they allowed QPR to level things up with their first real effort on goal as Bobby Zamora headed in Andrew Johnsons parried shot on 59 minutes. City responded within two minutes through Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez rounded things off in injury time becoming the first City player to score 50 Premier League goals.
Still it was far from vintage City.
Platt said: We are not happy in terms of performance but that is balanced out by the points total.
We paid a penalty by not finishing the game off.
There was no rhythm to the game. It was almost too easy to arrive in the final 30 yards.
We did not have the urgency to open things up. To go in at half-time 1-0 up we felt quite comfortable but knew the game was always open.
QPR boss Mark Hughes remained positive despite the defeat.
He said: In the first half we restricted them to a few chances and most of them from set-pieces.
In the end we were disappointed to concede a third goal because we dont think our play deserved that.
But I was encouraged. We saw progress from what we had seen so far this season.
