Suarez unhappy despite accepting ban
Luis Suarez has said he will not be appealing his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, but has hinted he is unhappy with the length of the suspension.
The Liverpool striker was slapped with the ban by the FA for sinking his teeth into the Serbians arm during last Sundays 2-2 draw at Anfield in which Suarez scored an added time equaliser.
The Uruguayan, who has been in trouble with the football authorities before, will now miss the remainder of the season, as well as the start of the new campaign in August.
Speaking on Twitter, Suarez apologised for his actions and set he did not wish to give the wrong impression by appealing the ban.
I would like to explain to everybody that I decided to accept the ban because whilst 10 games is clearly greater than those bans given in past cases where players have actually been seriously injured, I acknowledge that my actions were not acceptable on the football pitch so I do not want to give the wrong impression to people by making an appeal, he said.
I really want to learn from what has happened in last 2.5 years, many things have been said and written about me, I just tried to do my best on the field. I hope to come back early to play.
Liverpool left the decision on whether to appeal to Suarez himself, although that risked an increase in the length of the suspension if the original decision had been upheld.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers had been openly critical of the length of the ban, suggesting part of it could have been suspended pending good behaviour.
It is one of the longest match bans handed down by the FA, with stronger punishments such as that given to Eric Cantona issued in months and weeks, rather than games.
The ban throws Suarezs future at the Merseyside club into doubt, with rumours circulating he could seek a move abroad following the weeks events.
The FA says it will publicise the Independent Regulatory Commissions written reasons in due course.
