Atletico join Barca in Torres transfer talks
Atletico Madrid are ready to do battle with Barcelona in the race to sign Fernando Torres from Chelsea this summer.
Torres future at Stamford Bridge is up in the air with new manager Jose Mourinho believed to have sanctioned his departure, despite the strikers desire to stay put.
The 29-year-old, who scored 22 goals last season, has since emerged as a target for Barcelona, with talks already taking place over a £20million transfer.
But despite Barca pushing ahead with the deal, Torres former club Atletico have now made their interest known and are keen to bring back the fans former hero.
Atletico have previously revealed their interest in re-signing Torres, but later admitted a transfer was unlikely with Radamel Falcao still on the books.
But after Falcao left for Monaco earlier this month it is thought that a deal is now very much on for the player to return to his first club.
According to the Spanish press, Atletico have already made contact over a transfer and expect to meet senior Chelsea officials within days for further negotiations.
The Blues are already eyeing up spending the cash from Torres sale, with Napoli striker Edinson Cavani and Zenit forward Hulk among the targets.
