Soldado completes Spurs switch

Transfer fee represents a club record
Striker joins £17m midfielder Paulinho in north London
Roberto Soldado has completed his move from Valencia to Tottenham Hotspur after passing his medical. The transfer fee is believed to be £26m, which would be a club record for the north London club.

The 28-year-old striker scored 80 goals in 146 appearances for Valencia and André Villas-Boas had made him one of Tottenham's primary summer targets after the arrival of the Brazilian midfielder Paulinho last month.
A Tottenham statement said: "We are delighted to confirm the signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia after the player successfully completed his medical. The Spain international striker is expected to be available for the first time when we face Espanyol in our final pre-season friendly at White Hart Lane on Saturday 10 August."
Soldado began his career at Real Madrid, but three years ago he moved back to his hometown club of Valencia, where his performances earned him a regular place in the Spain squad.
The capture of Soldado means Spurs have broken their transfer record twice in four weeks, with Paulinho's £17m arrival last month eclipsing the £16m fee the club paid for Luka Modric in 2008.
Soldado will complete with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor for a place in the starting XI, although doubts have been raised over whether the latter two will be at White Hart Lane by the start of the season.
