Unwanted Darren Bent would be made welcome at Stoke City
It seems odd, writing an article on a player that hasnt been linked with Stoke at least, he hasnt been linked this summer (so far, anyway).
It became a bit of a standing joke within the Stoke community. Darren Bent the 29-year-old English striker was consistently linked with the club whilst Tony Pulis was at the helm, as Bent was deemed by the media as a Pulis-style player.
It seems strange as a fan, then, not hearing his name linked with us this summer, knowing that he is now openly being marketed through the back pages.
Last summer when Bent seemingly fell out with the management at Villa Park, the rumour was it would cost circa £15million before his signature could be secured by another club and that was before negotiating his wage demands.
At the time, it seemed a bargain for a player bagging 20-plus goals a season his price tag of £24million knocked down somewhat as a result of his public fallout with the powers-that-be.
Now at £6m, it seems almost too good to be true.
Theres no doubt he will play his heart out for whoever he turns out with this season and he wants to be on the plane to Brazil next summer
When I asked the question earlier on Twitter about whether fans would like to see him in a Stoke shirt, the unanimous answer was: Yes.
He may be a typical Pulis player but he also seems to be a player that could fit in nicely at the Britannia Stadium.
Bent has a reputation for being a bit of a one-hit wonder at new clubs bagging 20 goals, and then falling off the wagon.
Whether hes the type of player that Mark Hughes could work with remains to be seen. But theres no doubt that he will play his heart out for whoever he turns out with this season and theres equally no doubt that he wants to be on the plane to Brazil next summer, and that could be crucial for whichever side takes him.
