Luis Suarez will not be sold to Real Madrid, insists Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has told Real Madrid they have left it too late to try and sign Luis Suarez this summer.
Madrid are believed to be considering an approach to sign Suarez before the transfer window shuts on September 2, with a £45million offer being speculated.
However, Rodgers insists that Madrid would be wasting their time if they tried to sign the Uruguay striker, with Liverpool refusing to let him go so late in the window.
Its very difficult at this time for a bid for Suarez to succeed, Rodgers said.
There might have been a point a few months ago where there was time to do it but with 11 days to go it would be difficult to replace him.
Arsenal have already announced that they have dropped their interest in Suarez, after having had two bids rejected for his services.
And after warning Madrid off, Liverpool now expect to keep the striker for at least another 12 months, while there are suggestions they may offer him a new contract in a bid to finally end all the uncertainty over his future.
Elsewhere, Rodgers is planning on adding to his squad before the transfer deadline, with at least two new signings the target.
We are trying to get one or two more quality players in through the door, Rodgers continued.
