Schalke open talks over Podolski loan deal
Schalke have opened talks with Arsenal over a deal to sign forward Lukas Podolski on a season-long loan deal.
Germany international Podolski only joined Arsenal from Cologne last summer, in a transfer worth £10million.
But despite a strong start to his Gunners career, he endured a mixed finish to the campaign, and has been limited to a bench role in the first two matches of this season.
And now Schalke believe they can bring Podolski back to the Bundesliga, with the club opening negotiations with Arsenal over a loan switch.
According to reports, Schalke are offering to pay all of Podolskis £100,000-a-week wages, and believe the player would be keen to move as he looks to cement his place in the Germany squad ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next year.
Turkish side Galatasaray and Arsenals north London rivals Tottenham have also made enquiries into Podolski, but they would only be interested in a permanent transfer.
The 28-year-old, who managed 11 Premier League goals last season, still has three years left on his Arsenal contract.
