Ethical Chelsea are just stopping Rooney

When Sir Alex Ferguson first confirmed that Wayne Rooney wanted out of Manchester United, the player was linked with a whole host of top European clubs, from Real Madrid to PSG, Barcelona to Bayern Munich.
But when it came down to who was actually keen, only Arsenal and Chelsea confirmed their desire to sign Rooney.
Arsenal turned their attention to Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez instead though, while Chelseas bids only came after they missed out on their preferred targets, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani.
Since then though, Jose Mourinho has been keen to stress how ethical his club are behaving in their chase for the striker. Why
Chelsea and Mourinho were both been fined for tapping up Ashley Cole a few years ago and Rooney has been pictured playing golf down the road from Chelseas training ground. But thats probably just a coincidence.

Two bids have come in for Rooney, the first believed to be £20m and the second £25m, which clearly were never going to be enough to convince United to sell one of their better players to a title rival.
From an ethical point of view I cant talk about players from other teams, said Mourinho at the beginning of July. But it is not my character to speak with hypocrisy, I always tell what I see hes a player that I like very much.
A few days later, Mourinho confirmed the first of the bids but insisted he would not speak about Rooney again.
You have to respect Man United and you have to be ethical in this process, he said. From now, I dont say one more word about Wayne Rooney because you all know we want him. We made a bid and now its up to Man United. We did what we had to do in a proper way, in an ethical way, and were happy with our behaviour. It was clean.
Following the second bid, Mourinho was asked more questions on the player, so he refused to mention Rooney by name.
I dont think its ethical that I name a player that belongs to another club, he said. But if we have to make the bid we will do it in an ethical way, not like some clubs.
The ethical one No way, Jose.
The two clubs are set to play each other on Monday night and, after setting up two goals in his half-an-hour appearance against Swansea last weekend, David Moyes will likely be keen to play Rooney.
However, it will be interesting to see whether Mourinhos latest statement on bidding for Rooney again changes the United managers plans.
I dont want Chelsea to do it before we go there. I think this period, by the ethical point of view, is a period where were going to be quiet, he said.
Essentially, Mourinho is letting Rooney know that they have not given up on signing him and if he scores against Chelsea on Monday night, he could be scoring against his future club.
Will Rooney be in the right frame of mind for Moyes to select him now Apparently the club is furious about it, which suggests Mourinhos comments may have had the desired effect.
The ethical one No way, Jose.
