Sam Allardyce devastated by Andy Carrolls injury setback
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce admits he is devastated to lose Andy Carroll to injury again.
The striker became the Hammers record signing earlier this summer, when he made his loan move permanent, joining from Liverpool for £15m.
But Carroll has yet to play a match this season, having been sidelined with an Achilles injury since signing.
And despite the 24-year-old pencilled in to return to action this weekend, he suffered a further setback in training earlier this week.
Its not frustrating, it is devastating, because we have gone through the process of 16 weeks to go along with specialist reports on how we deal with the rehab when Andy is recovered from this injury, Allardyce said.
Unfortunately for us, the specialist said there was a five per cent chance it may break down again and Andy is one of those five per cent unfortunately.
What we have to do is make sure we treat him in the right manner as quickly as we possibly can again and get it right as quickly as we can.
It is certainly not as serious as last time, that is the one encouraging thing but hugely, hugely disappointing for him and for us.
Carrolls next return date is not yet known and the Hammers fear the England international could be out for the remainder of the season.
Free agent Mladen Petric was brought in earlier this week as cover, having been released by Fulham at the end of last season.
