Apple to hand back £20m of unfair app purchases

The tech giant has agreed the payout after it was sued by Americas federal trade commission for billing consumers unfairly.
As part of the settlement Apple is also being forced to insert clearer warnings into its software to make sure customers are properly informed of fees before making in-app purchases.
FTC chairwoman, Edith Ramirez, said: This settlement is a victory for consumers harmed by Apples unfair billing. You cannot charge consumers for purchases they did not authorise.
Apple CEO, Tim Cook, told staff in an internal email that we decided to accept [the settlement] rather than take on a long and distracting legal fight.
Experts say the ruling could have consequences for others across the globe trying to get refunds.
Metros technology editor, James Day, said: One reason Apple introduced its Touch ID fingerprint scanner on the latest iPhone was to add an extra level of security to decrease cases of non-consenting access to its stores.
