Phil Jones WILL be fit to go to the World Cup with England, says Manchester United boss Ryan Giggs
Jones suffered a shoulder injury in Tuesday's win over Hull and there were fears he would miss the tournament but Giggs insists the outlook is a bright one
Phil Jones will be fit to go to the World Cup with England, according to Manchester United boss Ryan Giggs.
Jones suffered shoulder ligament damage in United's 3-1 win over Hull on Tuesday, sparking fears he could miss this summer's tournament in Brazil.
But Giggs, speaking ahead of United's final game of the season at Southampton, said the defender and Wayne Rooney - who has missed the last two games with a groin strain - will be fit for Brazil.
"Phil's injury is not as bad as I first thought the other night," said Giggs.
"He's obviously out for Sunday, but he should be okay for the World Cup.
"Wayne started training in the last couple of days. Sunday will probably come a little bit too quick for him, but he will obviously train and be fine for the World Cup also."
Giggs will take charge of his final game as United boss at Southampton, ahead of Louis van Gaal's expected appointment next week.
United legend Giggs, 40, said he expected an announcement about the new manager imminently.
"My stance isn't any different from what it was last week," said Giggs.
"There's enough speculation, but nothing has been announced yet and my job is to prepare the team for Sunday, and that's what I'll do.
"There will probably be an announcement in the next couple of weeks, but until then it's just speculation."
