Arsenal Winger Andrei Arshavin Rejects Chance to Leave on Free Transfer

Emirates Stadium star wants to stay put.
Andrei Arshavin appears set to remain at Arsenal after Dynamo Moscow yesterday pulled out of a deal to sign the Russian international, even though he is available on a free transfer.
Arsenal had originally hoped to secure a fee for the 31 year-old midfielder who cost £15 million when he signed from Zenit St Petersburg in a protracted deal in January 2009, but decided to cut their losses in the hope of moving him on before the Russian transfer window closed on Thursday.
Arshavin wants to see out the final year of his contract and will now stay at Arsenal until at least January.

Whilst its honourable that Andrei Arshavin would want to fight for his place in the Arsenal first team it does seem clear that Arsene Wenger has lost patience in the Russian winger and may well have been instructed to cash in on the former Zenit man or at the very least look to remove his wage packed from the balance sheet.
Arshavin came on as sub late on against Sunderland in the North London clubs opening Premier League match of the season but has not been named in Arsenals squad for their following two fixtures and does not appear to have much of a future in Wengers plans.
There seems little hope that Arsenal would garner much from any sale of the winger and overall the £15m invested in Arshavin has been something of a waste. The stylish winger arrived in January 2009 following a spectacular showing in the Euro 2008 finals but bar a couple of quality run-outs, most notably his four goal haul at Liverpool and his cameo against Barcelona in February 2011, he has proved a big disappointment.
In many ways it would be better for all concerned if Arshavin were to look for a Gunners exit and it will be interesting to see what path his career takes when he does inevitably leave the Emirates Stadium.
