Jonjo Shelvey set England up
Roy Hodgson is set to call Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey into his England squad ahead of Friday night's World Cup qualifier against San Marino.
Frank Lampard remains a doubt for the clash at Wembley after suffering a knee injury on Saturday and Shelvey will be called in case the Chelsea midfielder is not passed fit.
Hodgson had wanted Lampard to replace the suspended Steven Gerrard as captain. If he fails to recover, either Wayne Rooney or Joe Hart are likely to take on the role.
Shelvey, who is suspended for the Under 21 European Championship play-off against Serbia on Friday, has started the season in impressive form under new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers and netted as Pearce's Under 21 side beat Azerbaijan last month.
