Sterling backs Reds to return to top four
Raheem Sterling believes that Liverpool can break back into the top four next season.
The 18-year-old winger made the comments on the clubs official website, backing manager Brendan Rodgers to get the Reds back into the Champions League.
Sterling said: We just need to get a good start to the next season and hopefully maintain that, and 100 per cent I think weve got a good chance of finishing in the top four.
Although Liverpool have won the European Cup on five occasions, the club have failed to qualify for the competition since Rafael Benitez left the club by mutual consent in 2010.
For me at Liverpool, 100 per cent its about cementing a starting place in the team, getting a good run of games and hopefully getting some goals for the club, and obviously assists as well, Sterling added.
As well as breaking into the Liverpool squad at the start of last season, Sterling also made his England debut in a friendly against Sweden.
If I do that then hopefully Ill get a pick for the England squad.
And alongside speaking of his club and country, Sterling was very open in complementing his manager Brendan Rodgers.
I cant talk any more highly of him as a person, not just as a manager, Sterling said.
Hes a top guy. Hes one of those who isnt only interested if youre playing well at that moment. He looks at players who are not playing or young players.
Sterling made 36 appearances last season for Liverpool, as well as five international appearances, one of which was a full cap for the national side.
