Probe into EDL abuse aimed at Cisse
Police investigate racist abuse aimed at Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse from EDL
Northumbria police says it is investigating claims that Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse was racially abused online by members of the English Defence League.
Cisse, 27, was allegedly targeted by members of the group after he refused to wear Newcastles new shirt for next season on religious grounds.
The Senegal international believes the Magpies partnership with payday loan firm Wonga goes against Muslim values, and he has ordered the club to change sponsors.

Newcastle have since sat down with Cisse to try to find a solution, but the news was met with dismay by a branch calling itself the Newcastle EDL who launched a tirade against the striker on their Facebook page.
Police confirmed they are now looking into the comments, with Chief Supt Dianne Winship releasing a statement saying they are taking the matter very seriously.
We have been made aware of abusive comments made on Facebook, she said.
Northumbria police take all reports of abuse very seriously and enquiries are being conducted.
Its not the first time Cisse has fallen foul of online abuse, with his relationship with Miss Newcastle Rachelle Graham being targeted earlier this year.
Miss Grahams Twitter account was cloned and abuse against the couple was posted, while in April both were racially abused for their relationship on a US extremist website.
Cisse, who joined Newcastle last year, is believed to be considering leaving the club over the incidents, with Russian side Anzhi keen to conclude a deal.
