Chelsea set to miss out on Hulk transfer for second time as Monaco eye move
Chelsea could be beaten to the signing of Hulk for the second time in 12 months, with big-spending French outfit Monaco believed to be chasing the Brazilian.
Hulk was strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last summer but the Blues were beaten to the punch by Zenit St Petersburg, however the 26-year-old is now looking for another fresh start after struggling to settle in Russia.
The news has alerted Chelsea to the possibility of bringing the former Porto striker to west London, but they are now set to have strong competition from Monaco.
The newly promoted Ligue 1 side have already splashed the cash this summer, denying Chelsea and a host of other clubs across Europe the acquisition of in-demand striker Radamel Falcao, after they snapped up the Colombian for a reported £50m. And it now looks as though they are willing to shell out around £40m to reunite the former Porto strike partners.
And if former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri decides he wants Hulk at Stade Louis II, the Italian is likely to get his wish, with Blues owner Roman Abramovich already telling returning manager Jose Mourinho not to expect big money for transers.
But Mourinho will need to be in the market for a new centre forward, with Fernando Torres Stamford Bridge exit looking more likely by the day and Demba Ba potentially being sent out on loan.
