Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk flies in for Celtic signing talks
Holland under-21 defender Virgil van Dijk has arrived in Glasgow for talks with Celtic.
The centre-back flew in with his agent in a bid to finalise a move to Parkhead.
Van Dijk, 21, confirmed his interest in moving to Scotland this week after current club FC Groningen revealed they intended to sell him.
Meanwhile, Anthony Stokes was among the players who reported to Lennoxtown today as Celtic began their pre-season preparations.
The out-of-contract striker rejected the offer of an extension but manager Neil Lennon said earlier this month that talks were ongoing.
Elsewhere, Celtic will learn on Monday who they will face in their first game of the season in the Champions League second qualifying round on July 16 or 17.
The tie could involve an awkward journey to take on the likes of Shakhter Karagandy in Kazakhstan, Bosnian outfit Zeljeznicar or Ludogorets Razgrad, from Bulgaria.
However, midfielder Joe Ledley said: We havent really looked into potential opponents too much at the moment. Its just about preparing ourselves. Thats what we did last year.
When the draw is made we will look into it a bit more. Obviously, with the flights, you dont want to go too far.
But it doesnt really bother us who we get. We know it will be difficult but we have a long time to prepare.
Ledley is pleased to see new faces such as Portuguese striker Amido Balde and, potentially, van Dijk arriving so early in the summer.
He said: Its good to get the players settled in and to gel as well. The boys are looking forward to working with both of them.
