Moyes makes offer for Everton's Baines

Manchester United open bidding for Leighton Baines at £12m
David Moyes has made his first move in an attempt to lure Evertons Leighton Baines to Old Trafford this summer, after putting in an opening bid for the left-back.
Moyes is keen for the 28-year-old to follow him to Manchester United as the Scot looks to stamp his mark on Sir Alex Fergusons squad.
Baines was signed by Moyes for Everton in 2007 for £6m and the England international has gone from strength to strength in his six years on Merseyside, so much so his value has doubled in that time, with Manchester United believed to have opened the bidding at around £12m.
Baines currently has two years remaining on his Everton contract and the Toffees were thought to have been in negotiations over an extended deal in an attempt to ward off any advances from the Premier League champions.
But it appears Moyes is determined to get his man, having already made his first signing since succeeding Ferguson at the beginning of the month, in the shape of 20-year-old right-back Guillermo Varela from Uruguay.
Manchester United are also in pursuit of Barcelona playmaker Thiago Alcantara and the Spanish sides former manager Johan Cruyff has urged Tito Vilanova to consider allowing the 22-year-old to gain first-team football at Old Trafford.
