Glenn Hoddle: Gareth Bale should join Manchester United not Real Madrid
Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle has urged Gareth Bale to join Manchester United if he opts to leave White Hart Lane this summer.
Bale, who scored 23 goals for Spurs last season, is hot property in the transfer market, with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich both desperate to land him.
Andre Villas-Boas has already insisted he is hopeful Bale will stay, but the comments come in a week when Madrid are believed to have made a formal approach to sign the Welshman.
However, according to ex-Spurs star Hoddle, Bale should stay in England and move to David Moyes new-look United side if he is determined to walk away.
I want him to stay at Tottenham, but if he does move, I think it would be easier for him to settle at another club in England, said Hoddle.
The only one he could realistically join is Manchester United.
He is still young enough to secure a move abroad later in life when he could cope better with it.
Hoddle himself enjoyed a spell abroad with Monaco after making 300 appearances for Spurs in the 1980s, and is a prime candidate to share the experience.
But Bale appears to have already set his heart on a switch to foreign shores, having previously admitted his desire to play in another country.
Any deal for Bale is likely to cost upwards of £60million.
