Moyes first signing It must be Rooney

WHEN David Moyes officially starts work as Old Trafford guvnor on Monday, one name should be written in capital letters at the top of his to-do list.
Not Cristiano Ronaldo or Edinson Cavani, as mouthwatering as it would be for United fans to see either pulling on the most famous red shirt in the game.
Not even putting the finishing touches to the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona and what an outstanding first signing that will be, by the way.
Those particular nuts can be cracked at a later date.
But the two words screaming out at the new manager should be Wayne Rooney and getting his United future nailed down as quickly as possible.
And in doing so hammering out a message to echo around the Premier League, never mind Old Trafford.
A message that bellows 'The King is dead, long live the King Im the one wearing the crown and my word is the one that counts now.'
When Rooney heads back into training next week, Moyes should put an arm round the England strikers shoulder, usher him straight into his office, and ask do you really want to leave this club
I reckon the answer would be a stark contrast to the ones being portrayed by the former gaffer.
Obviously no-one would suggest Fergie may have being a little economical with all the facts, in that infamous meeting when Rooney said hed like a transfer. Or so we were told.
But isnt it pointed that the players camp have yet to utter a word throughout it all
If he was so desperate to get out, surely there would have been something. What would he have to lose
And dont tell me the silence is all about not giving up a percentage of any fee.
Luis Suarez has said plenty on how he feels he must leave Liverpool without putting his own pocket at risk, so thats not an issue.

They dont tend to mention his run of 22 goals for club and country from October to March. Some when played out of position too.
Just like they dont mention the fact Robin van Persie drew a blank in 10 United games on the run, when Rooney was on fire.
They werent so quick to claim one man was carrying the team then.
Moyes, by assuring his former Everton youth star 'youre my top man, youre the pivot of this team', would be telling everyone who is boss now, and Rooney himself knows at once how valued he is.
The fans would not be a problem. The first few goals would soon show talk of a transfer request maybe wasnt all it was portrayed as.
And for England as a footballing nation, having its most gifted player focused purely on what he does best going into a World Cup year should be enough to put a smile on everyones face.
