Sunderland near deal for Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone
Sunderland are close to securing Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone as a replacement for Simon Mignolet, who joined Liverpool earlier this week.
Mannone has struggled to break into the Gunners side since his 2005 arrival from Atalanta, making just 15 Premier League appearances for Arsene Wengers side over the past eight years.
And Paolo Di Canio is set to offer his countryman regular first-team football at the Stadium of Light, as the Black Cats boss looks to fill the void left by the departure of highly-rated Mignolet.
25-year-old Mannone has had loan spells at both Barnsley and Hull in his time at Arsenal, but is now set to make a permanent exit from the Emirates despite being a popular figure in the dressing room.
