Arsenal fail with £6m bid for Grenier
Arsenal have had a £6million bid for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier turned down by the French club.
Grenier is out of contract at Lyon at the end of the season, and the Gunners are hoping to bag him at a bargain price.
But despite the 22-year-old previously admitting he would be interested in a move to the Emirates Stadium, Lyon have snubbed Arsenals opening offer.
According to Le Parisien, the bid included a potentially lucrative 25 per cent sell-on clause, plus the promise of a future partnership between the two clubs.
However, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is known to be a tough negotiator and is unwilling to allow Grenier to go without a fight.
It is thought that Aulas has already met with the player and his agent Frederic Guerra in the last week to discuss a bumper new contract, which would include a large pay rise.
The ball is now in Greniers court as to what happens next, with the midfielder needing to decide whether he is ready to commit his future to Lyon or try and force a move away.
Arsenal are expected to return with another offer soon, but it is unlikely to be much higher with Arsene Wenger only seeing the player as a luxury.
