Jamie Carragher says he expects Luis Suarez to stay at Liverpool this summer despite the striker revealing his desire to leave.
Suarez stunned the Reds earlier this month by asking for a transfer away, citing the fact he had become disillusioned with life in England.
But in a week when Real Madrid have been linked with a £45million bid for the striker, retiring Liverpool star Carragher says he still expects Suarez to stay put.
I think Luis will stay, he said.
Some big clubs will be interested in him because he is such a top player and that is something we have to accept.
We cant complain about that, we bought him off Ajax, he signed a contract last summer and has a few years left.
He is very important, he was probably the player in the Premier League last season and you want to be keeping your best players, which is what he is.
Hopefully we will keep him.
Liverpool are unlikely to part with their star man easily, but have already drawn up a contingency plan for his departure, with Barcelona striker David Villa a top target.
The Spain striker is available for around £8million, and the Reds will swoop for him if Suarez keeps pushing for a transfer away.
