Vito Mannone completes Sunderland transfer as Arsenal continue clear out
Arsenal have continued their summer clear out by selling Vito Mannone to Sunderland.
Mannone, 25, joins the Black Cats on a four-year-deal after failing to break through at Arsenal, where he made just a handful of first-team appearances during a seven year stay.
He will rival Keiren Westwood to be Sunderlands new number one, after they sold Simon Mignolet to Liverpool for £9million last week.
Arsenal will pocket £2.8million for the deal, with £2million up front now, and the rest to follow in bonus payments.
He becomes just the latest victim of Arsene Wengers intensive summer clearout, that begun earlier this month with the release of 13 players.
Andrey Arshavin, Sebastien Squillaci and Denilson all took their huge salaries off the wage bill at the end of their deals, while Sanchez Watt and Conor Henderson topped a list of youngsters who were told to go.
Arsenal have also allowed Martin Angha to join Nuremberg, Kyle Ebecilio to transfer to Twente, and Johan Djourou to sign for Hamburg on-loan.
The Gunners hope to do further business this week with Nicklas Bendtner in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a £2million switch, and the club expect Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu-Young to move after meetings with other clubs.
