Edinson Cavani set to join PSG despite Chelsea and Manchester City interest
Chelsea and Manchester City are set to miss out in the race for Edinson Cavani with PSG closing in on a deal for the Napoli striker.
Both Chelsea and City had been desperate to land free-scoring Cavani this summer, but the duo had failed to meet Napolis giant valuation of the hitman.
City are believed to have had a £50million bid rejected, while Blues manager Jose Mourinho reportedly baulked at his £54million buyout clause despite agreeing terms with the player.
PSG are now increasingly likely to get their man, with talks progressing on a deal that would see him scoop a reported £290,000-a-week at the Ligue 1 champions.
Cavani is thought to have already given his personal sign-off on the move, and the French club are now ready to meet his £54million release clause to complete the switch.
The deal comes about after PSG manager Laurent Blanc confirmed his interest in the 26-year-old this week, describing him as a dream player.
City have already turned their attentions elsewhere, with a move for Sevillas Alvaro Negredo now on the cards, while Chelsea are expected to peruse Liverpools Luis Suarez and Manchester Uniteds Wayne Rooney as alternatives.
