Levante open talks with Arsenal over out-of-favour striker Marouane Chamakh
Spanish outfit Levante have approached Arsenal over a deal for out-of-favour striker Marouane Chamakh.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has told struggling hitman Chamakh he can quit the Emirates Stadium this summer, and Levante are working on a deal.
According to reports in Spain, they are willing to offer Arsenal around £1million for the Morocco international, and would be willing to make him one of their highest earning players.
But Chamakh is dragging his feet over the transfer, and is prepared to sit out the final year of his Arsenal contract where he earns around £65,000-a-week.
Former club Bordeaux and Italian side Fiorentina also hold an interest in Chamakh, who spent the final part of last season on-loan at West Ham where he failed to impress.
The 29-year-old has been told he faces another campaign on the bench or in the Under-21 team if he insists on staying at Arsenal, where he made just 11 Premier League appearances last term.
Arsenal have already cleared out several fringe players, with Andrey Arshavin, Sebastien Squillaci, Denilson, Vito Mannone and Johan Djourou all leaving, while Francis Coquelin has completed a switch to SC Freiburg on-loan.
