Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is not satisfied with splashing out £100million on summer signings as he is plotting raids for Real Madrid defender Pepe and Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio.
The new City boss has already recruited heavily, with Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho, Sevilla pair Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo and Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic all captured since the end of last season.
But Pellegrini still does not believe the finishing touches have been put to his squad and is eager to bring in more quality to help the deposed champions regain their Premier League title while also launching a crack at Champions League glory after a couple of false starts.
Pepe will be paired alongside Vincent Kompany to form one of the best central defensive partnerships in Europe while Salvio would add depth in the wide positions.
However, the new arrivals could create some friction in the City camp given it is a World Cup year and with several former regular starters now facing less playing time on the pitch.
