Liverpool ready to sell Downing for discount price

Liverpool are prepared to accept a £15million loss on winger Stewart Downing by selling him to Newcastle for just £5m.
The decision comes just weeks after the Anfield club took a £20m hit by selling Andy Carroll to West Ham for £15m after buying him from West Ham for a club record £35m.
Downing was signed from Aston Villa just two years ago and has asked for time to consider a return to the North-East.
The 29-year-old started his career at Middlesbrough before moving to the midlands and will have talks with manager Brendan Rodgers over his future.

He had stated he would fight for his place but may have second thoughts after falling behind Philippe Coutinho, Iago Aspas, Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe in the pre-season pecking order.
West Ham have also been linked with a move for the England international and may now renew the interest in the midfielder.
