Real Madrid set to confirm world record Gareth Bale transfer from Tottenham with glitzy unveiling planned
Real Madrid are preparing to confirm the world-record signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham after finally agreeing a package to sign the Welshman.
Madrid have been perusing Bale all summer after making him their top transfer target at the end of last season, but the deal has been in constant doubt.
An opening bid of £85million was rejected last month, and when Fabio Coentrao refused to be part of a £93million deal this week, the move looked dead.
However, Madrid struck an agreement worth £109million on Wednesday and now expect to conclude the deal in the next 48 hours, with Spurs sending sporting director Franco Baldini to Spain yesterday to thrash out the final details.
Spurs are expected to pocket around £59million up front for Bale, with the rest set to follow in four payments of £12.5million until 2017.
Madrid will show off the coup of Bale at a glitzy presentation scheduled for early next week with thousands of fans expected at the Bernabeu to welcome the player.
Tottenham meanwhile are working frantically to complete deals for Willian and Erik Lamela before signing off the paperwork on Bales sale, in a bid to lighten the blow of losing him.
But with Chelsea in advanced talks to try and hijack the deal for Willian, and Lamela yet to be given permission to speak to Spurs, Bale could go before any direct replacements as bought.
