Gunners target Cesar eyes Benfica switch

Arsenal are set to miss out on another summer transfer target, after goalkeeper Julio Cesar said he would be keen to sign for Benfica.
The Portuguese side are the latest to show interest in the Brazilian international, who has been told he can leave QPR for the right money.
Arsenal had been pursuing the 33-year-old stopper earlier this summer, but their interest waned after a combination of the Hoops high valuation and Cesars wage demands.

But the Gunners were believed to be considering returning for Cesar, with the club keen to kick-start a recruitment drive after last weekends opening day defeat to Aston Villa.

However it appears they may have left it too late after Benfica showed their desire to sign the goalkeeper, with Cesar reciprocating their interest.
Benfica are a big club and I am proud to have been associated with them, Cesar said.
I will speak to my agent to learn exactly what is going on. I only like to talk when things are concrete.
Cesars international manager Luiz Felipe Scolari yesterday said the goalkeeper would elect to remain in the Championship with QPR, but it now appears the former Inter Milan man is still open to a move away from Loftus Road.
