Rooney won't ask United for Chelsea move
Wayne Rooney is set to remain at Manchester United after making it clear he wont try to force through a move to Chelsea by submitting a transfer request.
Rooney has been the subject of two failed bids from Chelsea this summer and Blues boss Jose Mourinho said after Mondays draw with United at Old Trafford that Rooney would have to say if he wanted to leave.
One way or another he has to say I want to leave or I want to stay, Mourinho told reporters. The person that started the story has to finish the story. For the good of everyone, it is time to finish the story.
Although he has never publicly stated his desire to leave, Rooney was said to be angry and confused earlier this summer when new United boss David Moyes suggested he would be used as back-up to Robin van Persie.
Rooney was warmly received by the United fans during the 0-0 draw with Chelsea, which it was hoped would sway the 27-year-old towards remaining at Old Trafford.
However, the England forward is understood to remain unmoved but, crucially, sources close to the player have said he will not be forcing the issue by asking for a move.
With United implacably opposed to selling , and Mourinho demanding some kind of clarification within 48 hours, it appears any move to Stamford Bridge before next Mondays deadline is highly unlikely.
