Mesut Ozils Arsenal arrival can develop Jack Wilsheres game, says Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger says he expects the arrival of Mesut Ozil to have a positive effect on Jack Wilsheres game, allowing the England international to dictate the play from deeper on the pitch.
Ozil joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day for a club record fee and is set to make his debut for the Gunners this weekend at Sunderland.
And while the Germans arrival at the Emirates is expected to boost morale around the ground, Wenger also envisages Ozil helping Wilshere adopt a deeper role.
In midfield, Jack Wilshere is more comfortable in deeper positions and Ozil more in a higher position, that is why I dont think they conflict, said Wenger.
I didnt always think that, but looking at Jack over the years now, he likes to come deep to take the ball and make a difference, and then give and go again.
Ozil, though, is more behind the striker, higher up on the field.
And Wenger says he is looking forward to Ozil bringing more creativity to the Gunners side, although admits he needs to get among the goals more frequently.
Ozil has the personality to express his game, which is for me the most important. He is a creative player, and that is what we want, to express his talent and develop it, added the Frenchman.
If you look well at his record, his assists are fantastic, his goalscoring record there is room for improvement.
In the next few years, you expect him to combine those two together.
