David Moyes wins first home match as Manchester United cruise past Crystal Palace
David Moyes has claimed his first home win as Manchester United manager with a comfortable 2-0 victory against 10-man Crystal Palace.
A first-half penalty from Robin van Persie and a lovely free-kick from Wayne Rooney secured the three points, while Marouane Fellaini made his debut as a substitute.
Moyes was boosted before kick-off by being able to include Rooney from the off, with the striker returning from a nasty head injury earlier than expected.
His return boosted United who attacked Palace straight from the off, and could have had the lead when Michael Carricks pile-driver left Julian Speroni needing to make a brave save after just 2 minutes.
Rooney and Van Persie then exchanged chances, before United had two penalty shouts turned down, with Patrice Evra and Ashley Young both going down in quick succession.
But United would eventually get a spot-kick when Young was upended by Kagisho Dikgacoi. The midfielder was sent off, but replays showed the majority of the contact was outside the area.
Van Persie tucked home a penalty, and United were well on their way.
Fellaini came on for his debut in the second half, while Palace also brought players off the bench, with Cameron Jerome, Adlene Guedioura and Jimmy Kebe all making their first Eagles appearances.
However, it proved to be for nothing as Rooney wrapped up the points with 10 minutes left, curling in a delightful free-kick to secure the win.
