PM: Spurs fans have a right to chant 'Yid'
David Cameron has defended Tottenham supporters right to chant the word Yid.
The FA last week issued a directive warning the use of such words could result in supporters receiving a banning order or even criminal charges.
However, the prime minister believes prosecution should only be brought if such racist chanting is motivated by hate.
Theres a difference between Spurs fans self-describing themselves as Yids and someone calling someone a Yid as an insult, the PM told the Jewish Chronicle.

You have to be motivated by hate. Hate speech should be prosecuted but only when its motivated by hate.
Spurs supporters have chanted terms such as Yid Army and Yiddos for years in defiance of anti-Semetic abuse from opposing fans.
And the White Hart Lane crowd made their feelings clear to the FA during Saturdays win over Norwich continually chanting Yid Army and Well sing what we want throughout the course of the match.
