Gareth Bale on the bench for Real Madrids Champions League clash against Galatasaray
Gareth Bale was made to wait for his Real Madrid Champions League debut after being named on the bench for the Spaniards Group B opener against Galatasaray.
The world-record signing opened his Real account with a goal in his first match for the club Saturdays 2-2 La Liga draw at Villarreal but dropped to the bench to be replaced by Angel Di Maria in Istanbul.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed a new five-year Bernabeu contract worth £76million at the weekend, also started.
Di Maria almost broke the deadlock when he curled over from the edge of the area after Ronaldo had a strong penalty appeal turned down by English referee Mark Clattenburg.
