Manuel Pellegrini off and running on a Plzen evening for Manchester City
Manchester City got their Champions League campaign off to the perfect start with a comfortable 3-0 victory in Plzen.
After wasting numerous chances in the opening half, Manuel Pellegrinis side stepped on the gas in the second, with Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero seeing City ease past the Czech champions.
City started on the front foot but could break the deadlock in the first half Toure failed to put his close-range header on target and Dzeko was denied twice by Plzen keeper Matus Kozacik from five yards after connecting with Aleksandar Kolarovs cross.
Aguero was the next to go close as the Argentine strikers shot hit a post in the 26th minute.
However, Plzen did pose questions from free-kicks, with skipper Pavel Horvaths delivery causing Citys defence problems, even with captain Vincent Kompany back in the side after his injury problems.
Three minutes after the break, Pellegrini side finally turned their superiority into goals.
Aguero played in Dzeko, who sidefooted home and Toure curled home from 25-yards five minutes later to silence the crowd inside the Doosan Arena.
The Argentine striker put the icing on the cake in the 58th minute when he turned smartly inside the area before firing home.
City face a much tougher task in their next match as they host European champions Bayern Munich.
