Wayne Rooney snaps at questions over Manchester United future and Chelsea link
Wayne Rooney was in no mood to discuss his link to Chelsea over the summer after helping Manchester United kick-off their Champions League campaign against Bayer Leverkusen.
The forward was instrumental in Uniteds 4-2 win at Old Trafford, bagging two goals and teeing up Antonio Valencia for the fourth.
However, Rooney responded sharply to questions probing into his situation at United following a summer of speculation.
Listen, Im concentrating on my football as I have done all summer, said the striker.
Ive put my head down, worked hard to get myself fit for the season. Im pleased with the way I have come back and delighted that I am scoring goals.
When pushed by the broadcaster to reveal if he had asked to leave Old Trafford, as former manager Sir Alex Ferguson had suggested, he snapped: Listen, Ive just told you. I am concentrating on my football which Ive been doing all summer.
Manager David Moyes, who was delighted to get up and running in his first ever Champions League game, failed to defuse the situation, and when asked if Rooney was ready to remain at United for the long-term, he replied: I dont know.
He has been great in training, working hard, head down and he looks fit. I think Robin van Persie and him are both such great players.
Im only just here but I have seen goals from Wayne before. I said a few months ago that he has a real chance to become one of the greats.
