Barton: English football needs major rethink
Joey Barton has warned the Football Association the game in this country needs a radical overhaul if England are ever to make an impact on major tournaments.
The QPR midfielder earned his only international cap in 2007 and has since been overlooked, despite an impressive season with Newcastle in 2010-11 and a year on loan at Marseille in Frances top flight.
He said: It [the English game] needs a total overhaul. Coaches need to go and work abroad. Were f***ed in this country.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and thats what were doing. It said it all to me when you hear that the FA dismissed Pep Guardiola for the England managers job because they wanted someone English.

The 31-year-old admits he feels his time with England has gone. Its never been about footballing ability [with me], he said. Its about me as a person. I speak my mind. I dont tick the boxes for the FA.
Joey Barton is spearheading Paddy Power and Stonewalls campaign to address homophobia in football. All professional clubs in England and Scotland have been sent rainbow laces to wear this weekend. The Right Behind Gay Footballers campaign focuses on changing attitudes.
