MJ statue removal the 'right thing' for Cottagers
Fulhams removal of their Michael Jackson statue is the right thing for the club and its supporters, says owner Shahid Khan.
The Cottagers yesterday announced they would be sending the statue of the former pop star back to the clubs previous owner Mohamed Al Fayed, who had the sculpture put in place in 2011.
But the artwork provoked derision from supporters of both Fulham and further afield, leading Khan to take the decision to send it back to Al Fayed.
Craven Cottage means the world to generations of Fulham supporters, and I have heard from many of them over the past two months, he said in a statement.
Our supporters views on the statue have been made clear.
I respect Mr Al Fayed and know he had good intentions in paying an individual tribute. However, the removal of the statue is the right thing for Fulham Football Club.
Al Fayed had previously warned the Cottagers new owner against removing the Michael Jackson tribute, having also taken a defensive stance over the statue when it was erected.
Why is it bizarre, he said in 2011. Football fans love it.

If some stupid fans dont understand and appreciate such a gift they can go to hell.
I dont want them to be fans. If they dont understand and dont believe in things I believe in they can go to Chelsea, they can go to anywhere else.
But despite their former owners thoughts, Fulham yesterday revealed they would press ahead with the statues removal, saying it wasnt part of their plans for the development of the Riverside Stand.
