Reds footballer Sterling's assault case collapses
Liverpool footballer Raheem Sterling has been found not guilty of attacking his former girlfriend after the case collapsed at Liverpool Magistrates Court due to her disappointing evidence.
He was alleged to have assaulted 19-year-old model Shana Ann Rose Halliday after an argument over a text message.
But Sterling, from Southport, was cleared of the charges after the Crown Prosecution Service withdrew its case when their appeal to treat Miss Halliday as a hostile witness was refused.
Sara Drysdale, prosecuting, said: The crown would say that Miss Halliday has demonstrated an unwillingness to tell the truth about what has happened.

But Stuart Driver QC, defending, argued the prosecution were just clutching at straws because the evidence given by their witness had been disappointing.
When the decision had been made, Ms Drysdale conceded there was no realistic hope of getting a conviction against Sterling.
The England international was formally found not guilty after being called to the dock.
