Hull City fail to win hearts, minds or TV coverage, but its points that win survival, so its unlikely Steve Bruce will mind
Theres a lot to be said for anonymity, just ask Steve Bruce.
Saturday nights Match of the Day featured some thrilling games Manchester United beaten at home, Man City beaten away, AVB and Jose locking horns and Arsenal going top of the table.
If you were a fan of Hull City, unbeaten in September and the pick of the newly-promoted clubs, you had to wait for your one-and-a-half minutes of fame, and then wait some more.
The City Tigers, as we must now try to call them, were seventh out of seven in the running order. Twilight hour. A 1-0 win over West Ham courtesy of a penalty that, lets face it, was broadcast after all but hardcore Hull fans had gone to bed.
Which is a shame because Hull are also seventh in the Premier League table, looking down on the likes of Everton, Swansea, Newcastle and, of course, the champions themselves, Manchester United.
With a very respectable ten points from six games (the same as Manchester City) and a goal difference of -1, Bruces men are building the perfect platform for their survival bid yet have received scant recognition.
Perhaps its that scoreline Saturdays victory was their third 1-0 win of the season and their other point came from a 1-1 draw. Hull are not the great entertainers but they do appear to be getting the job done.
Their main man, as only Hull fans and MOTD tragics will know, is Robbie Brady, Saturdays matchwinner.
The former Manchester United trainee has three league goals already and is increasingly popular with fantasy football managers. He is also likely to be able to walk down most high streets in the UK without attracting a second glance.
Much like his team.
In previous years Blackpool and Burnley have earned plaudits in the first half of their Premier League debuts for their cavalier football and plucky sense of adventure. With the novelty worn off and their tricks found out, both have slid back where they came from the following May.
Tough, pragmatic and hard to beat, Steve Bruces Hull are failing to earn similar plaudits. They will also settle for avoiding a similar fate.
