Sturridge may not have been fully fit to play for England
Hodgson continues Sturring
ROY HODGSON has admitted Daniel Sturridge may not have been fully fit to play for England against Germany.
But incredibly he picked the Liverpool striker to test his desire to wear the national shirt.
Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers was furious with Sturridge for declaring himself available for last months friendly, which England lost 1-0.
Sturridge revealed he was carrying a thigh injury and is now out for two months with unrelated ankle-ligament damage, which he suffered while training with his club.
Hodgson said: It was important for me to test Daniels resolve.
I might have been guilty of putting that resolve to the test, but I dont apologise for it.
And I am delighted he did get out there, even though he maybe himself didnt feel 100 per cent.
That means in future I will know I can trust him as an England player.
We only played him because medical opinion told us we could there was nothing on the scan.
Had he taken no part then people would have been basing his England capability on the form with his club side.
And we all know that what you do in your club side doesnt necessarily have an enormous impact.
Daniel is injured now, in one way I am sorry he cant play, but in another part of me thinks, Well, better now than later.
