Tottenham want Holland coach Luis van Gaal to replace Andre Villas-Boas
Holland manager Luis van Gaal has emerged as Tottenhams top target to replace Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane.
The 62-year-old Dutchman will not leave his country in the lurch just six months before the World Cup finals in Brazil, according to a report in the Sunday Mirror.
But Spurs hope he will be allowed to job share by the Dutch FA as there are just a couple of internationals between now and the end of the Premier League season when he will be able to link up with his squad in a full-time basis.
After the finals in Brazil he will then take control at Spurs on a permanent basis if all goes according to plan.
Van Gaal has a remarkable track record as coach with Ajax AZ Alkmaar, Bayern Munich and Barcelona which has impressed chairman Daniel Levy and the Spurs board.
A lot may depend on whether the man at the top of their shorts list is happy to work with director of football Franco Baldini, who apparently had his offer to resign rejected after AVB quit six days ago.
It seems Tottenham are determined to appoint a manager of the highest calibre to lead them to regular Champions League football which spells bad news for the highly rated but inexperienced caretaker boss Tim Sherwood.
